Noctua Says No to RGB, Screens, and White Coolers: Engineering Resources Go Elsewhere

Noctua Stays True to Its Philosophy

At a time when PC components are increasingly adorned with RGB lighting, LCD screens, and a rainbow of color options, one of the most respected names in cooling is doubling down on its minimalist approach.

Noctua Says No to RGB, Screens, and White Coolers: Engineering Resources Go Elsewhere

In an interview with Club386, Noctua Chief Product Officer Jakob Dellinger made it clear that the company has no plans to follow several common PC cooling trends. Features like RGB lighting, integrated displays, and even white versions of its products are unlikely to become part of its lineup.

Why No RGB or Screens?

According to Dellinger, Noctua wants to spend “as little in the way of resources as possible on making things look pretty”. The company’s engineering resources are instead directed toward improving thermal efficiency, reducing noise levels, and ensuring the highest possible product quality.

“We want to drive thermal efficiency, improve the quietness of operation, and ensure the best possible quality,” Dellinger explained.

While he stopped short of completely ruling out RGB products in the distant future, Dellinger said the current situation is “very probably going to stay like that”. The same applies to integrated screens, which have become increasingly common on AIO pump blocks and CPU coolers.

The White Fan That Never Was

Noctua’s stance on white products is equally firm. The company demonstrated chromax.white fan prototypes at Computex 2019, but the project was repeatedly delayed before being removed from its roadmap.

The reason goes beyond aesthetics. Dellinger explained that manufacturing high-precision fans in different colors requires dedicated molds and tooling for each color variant to maintain the same dimensions and performance. White is particularly challenging to manufacture without visible imperfections.

“Current Noctua products have reached a level of precision where pigment changes can disrupt blade-to-frame gaps and interfere with the Sterrox liquid-crystal polymer material used in our fans,” the company explained. Rather than invest in separate tooling for white products, Noctua prefers to validate tooling for new fan designs.

The Bottom Line

Noctua’s strategy is a deliberate break from industry trends. While other brands add RGB, screens, and new color options to attract customers, the Austrian company remains focused on what it does best: thermal performance and noise reduction.

For now, Noctua will continue offering its classic beige/brown and chromax.black products. White coolers, RGB lighting, and integrated displays are not on the roadmap.
