Battlefield Studios has scheduled a limited-time free-to-play week for Battlefield 6, which is about to receive one of its biggest updates since launch. The game kicked off 2025 with a bang, smashing concurrent player records in its early days on the market. However, it later came under fire for several gameplay and performance issues that eventually brought its average Steam user review score down to “Mixed.” Now, Battlefield Studios plans to address many of those issues with a major June update while encouraging more players to check out everything that’s changed.

Free-to-Play Event Details
Starting on June 30, alongside Battlefield 6‘s upcoming content update, players on all platforms will have until July 6 to download and play the game completely free of charge. However, some players will need to install Battlefield REDSEC to take advantage of the promotion. The developer’s official announcement states: “Requires Battlefield REDSEC on applicable platform (available separately) and all game updates.” This also suggests that players must install the June 30 update to access the free trial.
What’s Included in the Free Trial
During the free-to-play week, players can jump into:
- Five game modes, including the new Tactical Obliteration and Casual Battle Royale
- Four maps, featuring the biggest map in Battlefield 6, Railway to Golmud, the reimagined Cairo Bazaar, and more
- The new Wet Work Event, a hunt-or-be-hunted experience across Battlefield and REDSEC modes
- The EOD Bot Arm, a new improvised melee weapon
Major Gunplay Overhaul in Update 1.3.3.0
The free trial coincides with Update 1.3.3.0, which introduces significant changes to core gunplay. Key improvements include:
- Recoil Changes: Recoil directions are now more consistent and predictable across all weapons, making them easier to master
- Damage Multipliers: Damage to limbs and lower torso has been reduced, making shot placement more important
- Sniper Sweet Spots: One-hit kill ranges have been adjusted for better balance
- Bullet Drag and Muzzle Velocity: Increased bullet drag and decreased muzzle velocity make long-range engagements more skill-based
- Netcode Improvements: Hit confirmations and damage feedback have been refined for better combat readability
