GTA 6 Screenshots Stoke Fire Into Bizarre Red Dead Redemption Crossover Theory

Grand Theft Auto VI has entered unprecedented territory by opening up pre-orders without actually showing expecting fans any gameplay whatsoever. The upcoming blockbuster game needs no introduction, though, with hundreds of thousands of fans already snapping up the upcoming title that could actually launch earlier than its November 19 release date.

Yet actual footage of GTA 6 still evades us as we wait to see more of what’s in store for Lucia and Jason’s unlawful chapter.

Rockstar Games did treat us to 63 new screenshots of the game, though, claiming that they are in-game snaps rather than readily-made graphics, offering a small insight into the quality of visuals we will get.

One new look at Jason, though, has sent Rockstar fans into a frenzy, as the Arthur Morgan theory has sprung into life again.

The Uncanny Resemblance

With Jason Duval set to be one half of the Bonnie-and-Clyde dual protagonists of GTA 6, the new screenshots showed his appearance in a range of different trims and outfits, which can be customised in-game by players.

No matter the hairstyle, though, an abundance of fans seem to think that Jason is the spitting image of Red Dead Redemption 2‘s Arthur Morgan.

This has reignited older theories that Rockstar has deliberately made its new main character a direct relation to Arthur Morgan, combining the two franchises set in completely different eras.

Taking to social media, fans have uploaded side-by-side pictures of the two lead characters, and it’s fair to say that there is an uncanny resemblance with the upturned nose, pursed lips, smoldering eyes, and similar facial hair.

Popular content creator Synth Potato said: “Jason could absolutely pass as a direct descendant of Arthur Morgan, he’s the spitting image of him. If GTA 6 somehow makes it canon, I would not even be surprised.”

The Morgan Revolver Clue

To add a little more fuel to the fire, one of Jason’s weapons is also called the Morgan revolver.

That wouldn’t be the first Red Dead Redemption Easter egg to find its way into Grand Theft Auto, but it is rather on the nose. The coincidence of the character’s appearance and the weapon’s name has left many fans convinced that Rockstar is hinting at a shared universe.

A History of Crossover Theories

This isn’t the first time fans have connected the two franchises. Both GTA V and Red Dead Redemption 2 contain references to each other. In GTA V, a book titled “Red Dead” appears, and a character mentions “the events of 1899.” In RDR2, a book called “GTA” can be found at Braithwaite Manor. The games also share a fictional brand, “Sauer,” and there’s a character named “J. Marston” buried in a cemetery in GTA V.

The Digital Foundry Warning

The screenshots of Jason and various other characters in the game have caused a stir online, with more theories spinning than just the Rockstar relations.

One of those states that this is not the product that we will actually see when GTA VI arrives. The images are supposed to be “pristine” 4K snaps of the live game, but tech savants Digital Foundry suggest otherwise.

The outlet claims that the quality of images surpasses even what the PlayStation 5 Pro is capable of, and Rockstar even confirmed that the leading console will be the best way to experience GTA 6.

“With such a high level of fidelity on show, then, a question still dangles over which platform is actually being used to generate these shots. To be clear, we find it unlikely that these are real-time results on PS5, Xbox Series X – or in the best case on console, PS5 Pro.”

“We’d like to be pleasantly surprised of course, and this will be firmly answered once it releases. However, in many instances, the combination of pristine image quality, suggesting a native 4K render (or higher), and inconsistent lighting on foreground characters casts doubt over how feasible it is.”

The Bigger Picture

Nonetheless, GTA VI will no doubt look incredible. Whether Jason is truly a descendant of Arthur Morgan remains to be seen, but the resemblance is striking enough to keep fans talking until the game’s November release.

Now, all we need to do is search high and wide for more clues that link Jason to Arthur Morgan when the game releases in a few months.

Grand Theft Auto VI launches on November 19, 2026, for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.
