Red Dead Redemption Resurfaces With Surprise May Return, Saddle Up

The original Red Dead Redemption is making a surprise return next month—but it’s not the return most fans wanted. A Spanish retailer has leaked a physical PlayStation 5 version of the classic Western, set to launch on May 7. While collectors may rejoice, the broader Red Dead community is livid.

What’s Coming

The retailer Wakklap has seemingly opened pre‑orders for a native physical copy of Red Dead Redemption on PS5. The listing includes both the base game and the beloved Undead Nightmare DLC, priced at approximately €32.90 (around $38 / £29). The physical edition doesn’t offer any new content beyond the digital version that launched on PS5 last year, but it gives collectors a disc to display on their shelves.

Why Fans Are Furious

The backlash is not about Red Dead Redemption itself—it’s about what’s still missing. Rockstar has yet to release a current‑gen port of Red Dead Redemption 2 for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. Such an update would unlock 60 frames per second gameplay, improved resolutions, and faster loading times. Instead, fans are getting a physical reprint of a 2010 game that many have already played.

“Man, this is getting ridiculous. They are trolling us at this point,” one disgruntled fan remarked. Another added, “We gonna get GTA VI before RDR2 gets ported to PS5.” A third speculated, “At this point, RDR2 current‑gen might be released on the game’s 10th anniversary in 2028.”

A Pattern of Neglect

Red Dead Redemption 2 remains one of the most critically acclaimed games of all time, yet it has received minimal post‑launch support compared to GTA V. The long‑requested 60fps patch for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S has never materialized, and Rockstar has shown little interest in revisiting the frontier.

Meanwhile, the studio is fully focused on Grand Theft Auto VI, which launches November 19 on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. With the marketing campaign set to ramp up this summer, it’s unlikely Rockstar will distract attention with a RDR2 update anytime soon.

The Silver Lining

For physical collectors, the May 7 release is a small win. A disc copy of Red Dead Redemption on PS5 is a nice addition to any library. But for the vast majority of fans, it’s a reminder of what they’re not getting.

Saddle up if you want, but don’t expect a 60fps ride through the heartland any time soon.
