After years of waiting, GTA 6 pre-orders have finally arrived. But with them comes a decision that could shape your entire experience in Vice City. Rockstar Games has confirmed the contents of the Grand Theft Auto VI: Ultimate Edition, and it’s not just cosmetics — exclusive story missions and gameplay content are locked behind the most expensive version.

Two Editions, Two Experiences
Rockstar is offering two digital editions of GTA 6:
- Standard Edition ($79.99): The complete single-player experience set in the biggest, most immersive evolution of the series yet.
- Ultimate Edition ($99.99): Includes the base game plus “an exclusive collection of premium vehicles, weapons, apparel, and action threaded across all aspects of Jason and Lucia’s story”.
The price is higher than the typical $70 AAA title, a move many industry experts had predicted. But it’s the nature of the exclusive content, not just the price tag, that has fans divided.
Five Exclusive Shops You Can’t Enter Without the Ultimate Edition
Perhaps the most controversial aspect is that the Ultimate Edition locks off access to several in-game shops and businesses. These aren’t just cosmetic bonuses; they’re part of the game’s world that Standard Edition players simply won’t be able to experience.
The exclusive locations include:
- Rideout Customs: A tuning shop offering deep car modifications, including detailed interiors, unique rims, and donk stylings.
- One-Eyed Willie’s: A workshop in the Lake Leonida area specializing in off-road modifications and custom car painting.
- Sara’s Unisex Salon: A hair salon with exclusive hairstyles, facial hair, makeup, and manicure options for Jason and Lucia.
- Stock 305: A clothing store with unique and exclusive streetwear sets.
- Electric Fang Tattoo: A tattoo parlor offering over 50 exclusive designs created by the real-world art collective FAILE.
These shops “simply aren’t open for business” in the Standard Edition. It’s a level of content gating that some fans have called “egregious” for a single-player game.
Two Exclusive Missions
Beyond the shops, the Ultimate Edition also includes two exclusive side missions:
- PTT Youngin$ Illegal Goods Store: Players raid the compound of one of Southside Vice City’s loudest and most socially active gangs, escaping with special items and “distinct contraband”. This is described as a “Gang Compound” activity, possibly similar to outposts in other open-world games.
- Wyman’s Classic Car Collection: A “special commission” from an eccentric collector and local fixer named Wyman, tasking you with tracking down abandoned classic and project cars and restoring them to their former glory.
Both missions are threaded across Jason and Lucia’s story, with new items unlocked behind each chapter.

Fan Reaction
The decision to lock story content behind the Ultimate Edition has sparked significant backlash. One Reddit user wrote, “Rockstar I love you and all but locking content behind editions of the game like this is pretty egregious. This shouldn’t be things you hide behind an ultimate edition of the game for players who just want to buy the basic game”. Another added, “That’s a huge red flag for me. Remember it’s a SOLO GAME, this is about STORY MODE”.
Some fans have compared this approach unfavourably to GTA 6, which included everything in the base game and then offered two large expansions later. Others see it as a symptom of GTA Online’s success, influencing how Rockstar monetises its single-player content.
Standard Edition owners can purchase the Ultimate Edition Upgrade separately from the PlayStation or Xbox Stores after redeeming their Standard Edition code.
Grand Theft Auto VI launches on November 19, 2026, for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.
