When Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced was officially unveiled, fans noticed two major omissions: the beloved multiplayer mode and the Freedom Cry DLC. Now, Ubisoft has explained why – and the answer is refreshingly straightforward: the remake is singularly focused on Edward Kenway.

A Pure Single‑Player Experience
In a recent statement, Creative Director Paul Fu confirmed that Resynced will not feature any form of multiplayer. The decision was made to concentrate all development resources on rebuilding Edward’s story, enhancing ground and naval combat, and expanding the narrative with new moments. “We wanted to deliver the ultimate Edward Kenway experience,” Fu explained. “That meant putting everything into the single‑player campaign.”
The remake also removes the playable modern‑day sections from the original Black Flag. Many fans considered those segments a distraction from the pirate fantasy, so their absence has been widely welcomed. The game will now flow seamlessly from prologue to epilogue without leaving the Animus.
No RPG Mechanics, No Health Sponges
Fu also addressed concerns that Resynced might borrow features from the recent RPG trilogy (Origins, Odyssey, Valhalla). He confirmed that the remake remains a pure action‑adventure game. There is no leveling, no gear progression, and no XP grinding. Hidden blade assassinations are lethal – no “critical chance” or “assassin damage” stats. Enemies will not be health sponges; combat is fast, reactive, and skill‑based, much like the original but with modern polish.

New Features: Pets, Tailing Reworks, and More
While some content is missing, Resynced adds several new features:
- Pets: Edward can now find, tame, and bring cats and monkeys aboard the Jackdaw. (Fans are hoping for parrots as well.)
- Reworked Tailing Missions: The infamous eavesdropping missions have been overhauled. Failure no longer means instant restart – enemies will attack, and you can fight your way out. In some cases, tailing may even be optional.
- New Enemy Types: Combat encounters have been diversified with fresh foes.
- Enhanced Naval Combat: Upgraded physics and Pathfinder support for smoother sailing.
Preservation of the Original
Ubisoft has promised that the original Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag will not be delisted. Players who prefer the original multiplayer or Freedom Cry can continue to purchase and play the classic version across all platforms. Resynced is positioned as a complementary, modernized take – not a replacement.
