AMD Listens: FSR 4.1 Coming to Radeon RX 7000 in July, RX 6000 in 2027
After months of community pressure, leaked code, and repeated requests, AMD has finally confirmed that its next‑generation machine‑learning upscaling technology – FSR Upscaling 4.1 – will not remain exclusive to Radeon RX 9000 series (RDNA 4). In a welcome move, the company is bringing the feature to older graphics cards.
The announcement came from Jack Huynh, AMD Senior Vice President and General Manager of Computing and Graphics. According to Huynh, Radeon RX 7000 series (RDNA 3) owners will receive FSR 4.1 support starting July 2026. The update will work out of the box in over 300 supported games at launch.
A Special Version for RDNA 3
The FSR 4.1 implementation for Radeon RX 7000 series has been specifically developed for the first‑generation AI accelerators in RDNA 3, using INT8 instructions – the same approach seen in a leaked version of FSR 4 from 2025. This allows the ML‑based upscaling to run efficiently on older hardware without requiring the FP8 acceleration found in RDNA 4.
Radeon RX 6000 (RDNA 2) Gets Support in 2027
AMD also plans to extend FSR 4.1 to Radeon RX 6000 series (RDNA 2), though the timeline is further out. Huynh confirmed that support for RDNA 2 players is coming in early 2027. A final compatibility list has not yet been published, but the update is expected to cover most RX 6000 desktop and mobile GPUs.

What Is FSR 4.1?
FSR 4.1 is an updated version of FSR 4, focusing on image quality improvements. It includes sharper ML‑based upscaling, better handling of Ultra Performance mode, and improvements for dynamic resolution scaling (DRS). AMD says the version coming to RX 7000 series is FSR 4.1 – not the earlier 4.0 code that leaked – so users should expect a more refined experience.

AMD has not yet announced the exact driver version, the precise July release date, or the full list of launch titles. However, the confirmation that both RDNA 3 and RDNA 2 will eventually receive the technology marks a significant reversal from the company’s earlier stance that FSR 4 was exclusive to Radeon RX 9000.
For gamers still holding onto RX 6000 or RX 7000 cards, this is excellent news. The wait has been long, but ML‑based upscaling is finally coming to AMD’s older generations.
