Palworld’s 1.0 Update Won’t Wipe Your Saves – But You Might Want to Restart Anyway
Palworld, the “Pokémon with guns” survival game that took the world by storm in early 2024, is finally leaving early access. The full Version 1.0 release is scheduled for July 10, and with it comes a wave of anxiety that often accompanies early access graduations: will my save file be wiped?

Developer Pocketpair has now issued an official statement to ease those fears. In a post on social media, the studio confirmed that players do not need to wipe their save data when 1.0 launches. However, there is an important caveat: Pocketpair is strongly recommending that players start a brand‑new save file anyway.
Why You Might Want to Restart
The 1.0 update is not just a small patch. Pocketpair describes it as containing a “large number of changes” with “overhauls to mechanics and new content.” The developer believes that starting a completely fresh save from scratch will give players “the best experience” – allowing them to experience the revised gameplay loops, rebalanced progression, and newly added areas as intended, rather than inheriting quirks or outdated systems from an early access world.
That said, no one is forcing a wipe. Players who have invested hundreds of hours into their existing bases and progression can keep playing on their old saves. The option to continue is there.
The Global Palbox: A Compromise
For those who want to try a fresh start but don’t want to lose the rare Pals they spent hours capturing, Pocketpair has a solution. The Global Palbox system allows players to transfer Pals between different save files. You can start a new 1.0 world and immediately populate it with your favourite endgame Pals from your early access save, skipping the early grinding while still experiencing the new content.
This strikes a smart balance: you get the intended 1.0 experience, but you keep your most valuable companions.
What’s Coming in 1.0?
Palworld’s full release will introduce brand‑new weapons, armour, Pals, and areas. The game has already seen significant updates during early access, including new islands and Pal variants, but 1.0 promises to be the most complete version yet. Pocketpair has also hinted at future projects, including Palworld: Palfarm, a life sim/farming spin‑off.

Bottom Line
If you’ve been holding off on playing Palworld until the full release, July 10 is your date. If you’re a returning player worried about your save, breathe easy: your progress is safe. But consider the developer’s advice – starting fresh might just be the most fun way to experience the game you fell in love with all over again.
