GTA 6 Bosses Rule Out Early Access Bundles as Pre-Orders Hit ‘Unprecedented’ Levels

The most turbulent game release build-up is almost over. After ten years of development, multiple delays, and unparalleled levels of anticipation, it is now reaching its climax.

GTA 6 is by far the biggest game release that we’ve ever expected, and a huge community of gamers has been clawing at any teasers and leaks to try and figure out just what Rockstar Games has been cooking for so long.

While all will be revealed on November 19, a Netflix “extended look” will go more in depth than anything we’ve seen yet, and finally answer our endless list of gameplay questions.

But if you were hoping that the release date might be brought forward, thanks to rumours of an early access window starting a week ahead of time, Take-Two boss Strauss Zelnick has got a nail to pop your balloon.

Take-Two CEO Claims Special Versions of GTA 6 Will Not Include Early Access

Take-Two Interactive has a history of releasing games with an early access window, especially with its sports simulator titles gifting players exclusive time before the mass sales, often included in a paid bundle.

Yet with just two versions of GTA 6 announced so far, none of which include an early access period, Take-Two investors quizzed whether or not the developers planned to drop a new version with a similar pre-release taster.

“Given the hype around this title, I mean, I think we could have made any number of other pricing choices,” Zelnick said in the company’s earnings call on August 7. “But as I said earlier, our focus is on delivering way more value than what we charge for something.”

Zelnick’s comments allude to GTA 6 not launching with any new, special bundles, although if they do, there will be much more quality involved, rather than cheap incentives like early access. This comes after “astonishing” and “unprecedented” levels of pre-orders, which would continue to make a new early-access release unfair for those who have already bought it.

Pre-Orders: “Unprecedented and Astonishing”

Speaking during the earnings call, Zelnick described the early pre-order response as “unprecedented and astonishing” but declined to provide specific figures. “I can say that the level of pre-orders is unprecedented and astonishing, and we’re very grateful for that,” Zelnick told analysts.

“Nobody’s ever seen anything like this before, at Take-Two or in the industry,” he said.

However, the CEO was cautious about declaring victory too early. “But they are so unprecedented that we just don’t know how it’ll translate into sales,” he added. “One of the reasons we’re not changing our guidance is, to be clear, we haven’t sold one unit yet. You can cancel a pre-order. We’re kind of allergic to victory laps round here, and we certainly don’t do the victory lap before the event.”

$1.39 Billion in Net Bookings

Take-Two Interactive reported $1.39 billion in net bookings for the first fiscal quarter ended June 30, slightly above its own guidance range. Pre-orders for GTA VI opened on June 25, meaning they were available for just five days during this quarter — making the numbers especially astonishing.

The publisher maintained its full-year bookings outlook of $8 billion to $8.2 billion for fiscal 2027. Total net revenue rose to $1.53 billion from $1.50 billion a year earlier.

Why No Early Access?

Zelnick’s decision to rule out early access bundles reflects a broader strategy of focusing on value delivery rather than maximising short-term revenue through premium pricing tiers. “Our focus is on delivering way more value than what we charge for something,” he said.

The two editions currently available — Standard at $79.99 and Ultimate at $99.99 — offer no early access incentive. The Ultimate Edition includes premium vehicles, weapons, apparel, and extra story-threaded content for Jason and Lucia, but all players begin playing on the same day.

What’s Next: The Netflix Extended Look

Fans will get a fresh look at the game on August 27 with the premiere of ‘Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look’ on Netflix. Zelnick described the Netflix debut as merely “one of the hors d’oeuvres” for the full marketing campaign, adding that “there’s appetizers, main course and dessert to follow.”

With just under four months until GTA VI‘s launch on November 19, 2026, the marketing campaign is only just beginning.
