While Grand Theft Auto VI (GTA 6) remains one of the most anticipated games of all time, a new title—MindsEye—has emerged, drawing comparisons to Rockstar’s legendary series. But after its first gameplay reveal, fans are not convinced.
Developed by Build a Rocket Boy (founded by ex-Rockstar producer Leslie Benzies), MindsEye promises “best-in-class cinematics, high-octane driving, and explosive combat.” But judging by the reaction to its recent 30-second gameplay clip, it might have a long way to go before winning over GTA fans.
What Is MindsEye?
Set in the fictional desert town of Redrock, MindsEye is a narrative-driven, single-player action-adventure game set in a near-future world. With car chases, shootouts, and an immersive story, it’s clearly inspired by Grand Theft Auto—but does it hold up?
Why Are GTA 6 Fans Roasting It?
A short gameplay clip was posted on the Everywhere NET Twitter account, and the response was brutal. Fans compared it to “a fake game Jimmy would play in GTA 5” and called out its stiff animations and lack of recoil in gunplay.

With its release set for June 10, 2025, MindsEye still has time to polish its gameplay—but first impressions matter. If it wants to stand out (and not just be seen as a GTA knockoff), it’ll need to show more dynamic mechanics, smoother combat, and a compelling story.
