GTA 6 Achieves the Impossible, It’s Already Boring Gamers

GTA 6 will likely go on to become the most successful video game of all time, demolishing existing sales records. After all, it’s already broken a number of records pertaining to trailer and tweet views.

GTA 6's Second Trailer Looks So Realistic, Fans Can't Believe It's a Game

The hype surrounding the game is unlike anything the games industry has known before; I certainly can’t think of another studio where fans have counted cigarette butts outside the door to try and tie stress levels to when the next trailer is dropping.

Despite all of this, though, GTA 6 is doing something that many previously thought might be impossible: it’s boring gamers.

GTA VI Is Still Yet to Reveal Any Extended Gameplay

GTA 6 is asking a lot of fans. While pre-orders are open, very little is actually known about the game beyond its setting and story premise. While gameplay was used for GTA VI‘s second trailer, we’ve not seen anything in the way of unedited gameplay with the UI still intact.

Players have no idea what combat looks like, nor cruising the open-world, and we certainly don’t know what new or returning features GTA VI will have. It’s all very speculative, which, let’s face it, isn’t ideal when Rockstar Games is already asking for our hard-earned cash.

Yes, you can understand why there’s a desire to keep GTA VI under wraps, but the demand of fans’ loyalty despite having seen so little of the game is starting to make the patience of many wear thin.

“Rockstar’s marketing has been a total bore,” said Reddit user chud-69. “Before you lose your mind, no, I’m not referring to the fact that we haven’t got a new trailer. No billboards, no murals, no short video ads, we only got one new official artwork, all the screenshots are based around the new edition, and not actual new content from the game, and the worst one to me is no press interviews.”

The Satirical Take

In a more satirical take on the topic, user Lefty1001 said, “Who else is bored with GTA VI already? Yes, I haven’t played it yet, but I’ve imagined playing it ever since trailer 1 released, and it’s already getting stale. I’ve finished every mission and gotten all the achievements in my head, and I don’t see a reason to go back to it unless I want to drive around in my head.”

Very funny. It goes without saying, this is GTA VI, so there’s going to be plenty of shitposting in the days leading up to launch. That being said, these attempts at viral posts do signal and reflect a growing lack of patience.

The Marketing Strategy Question

It’s true that GTA 6 doesn’t need to market itself very much. Marketing isn’t for entertainment; it’s to sell a product, and GTA VI isn’t going to have any issues with its sales.

Then again, if you’re asking people to invest $99.99 in GTA VI‘s Ultimate Edition, it is far more consumer-friendly to actually showcase what gameplay looks like.

The Cyberpunk 2077 Shadow

Is Rockstar Games going to release a bug-filled dud? It’s extremely unlikely, but no one really thought that CD Projekt RED’s Cyberpunk 2077 would turn out as badly as it did at launch.

GTA VI has one of the most loyal followings out there despite not having been released. It awaits to be seen though, if Rockstar asks too much of that loyalty and fails to pay it back with what fans want … gameplay.

The same user, chud-69, pointed out that GTA VI is “not doing the things that make people excited for upcoming games” when players want to see “the hard work” that developers have put into the game. They added that if this was a “smaller IP” they’d be “worried” about its success.

The Bottom Line

With no third trailer in sight and pre-orders already generating billions, Rockstar is playing a high-stakes game of patience with its fanbase. The marketing strategy may ultimately prove to be a masterstroke of hype-building, but for now, it’s testing the limits of even the most loyal players.

Grand Theft Auto VI will be released on 19 November 2026 on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. The PC port is yet to be announced.
