AMD Announces Ryzen 7 7700X3D: 8‑Core Zen 4 with 3D V‑Cache for $329
AMD is expanding its AM5 3D V‑Cache lineup with a more affordable 8‑core option. The Ryzen 7 7700X3D will launch on July 16 with a suggested SEP of $329. The processor had previously appeared in leaks and has now been officially confirmed with CPU‑Z support added in version 2.20.1.
Lower Clocks, Same Cache Advantage
The Ryzen 7 7700X3D is built on the Zen 4 architecture and features 8 cores and 16 threads. It has a 4.0 GHz base clock and a 4.5 GHz boost clock – significantly lower than the Ryzen 7 7800X3D, which runs at 4.2 GHz base and 5.0 GHz boost. However, the cache configuration remains identical: 96MB of L3 cache (32MB + 64MB 3D V‑Cache) and a total of 104MB including L2. The TDP is rated at 120W, matching the 7800X3D.
Positioning and Pricing
At $329, the Ryzen 7 7700X3D will launch $120 below the original $449 price of the 7800X3D (which currently sells for around $330–360). This makes the new chip a direct replacement at a lower MSRP, though with reduced clock speeds. For gamers who prioritise cache‑sensitive performance over raw frequency, the 7700X3D could offer excellent value.
The chip sits below the Zen 5‑based Ryzen 7 9800X3D and the 7800X3D, while staying above the 6‑core Ryzen 5 7600X3D. It gives AM5 users a new drop‑in upgrade option without moving to newer Zen 5 parts.
