Assassin’s Creed Hexe will receive a major update in 2027, Ubisoft has confirmed, alongside a mysterious teaser that has left fans scratching their heads as they try to figure out what the cryptic messages could mean.

Ubisoft announced Assassin’s Creed Hexe during its September 2022 Ubisoft Forward showcase, alongside Assassin’s Creed Codename Red, which later became Assassin’s Creed Shadows and was released in 2025. However, aside from speculation and the occasional tidbit of information from Ubisoft, we haven’t really heard much about Assassin’s Creed Hexe since its original announcement. Thankfully, Ubisoft has promised a major update in 2027, alongside a rather cryptic tease following recent speculation about its main protagonist.
What Ubisoft Has Revealed About Assassin’s Creed Hexe
In a recent update, Ubisoft teased: “We’re making steady progress on this darker Assassin’s Creed experience, though there is still work ahead of us. We know the wait has been long, and we’re grateful for your patience and continued enthusiasm for the project. The team remains focused on delivering the unique vision at the heart of this project, and we’ll share our next major update in 2027. Until we’re ready to share more, we’ll keep enjoying your theories, discussions, and excitement as this experience continues to take shape.”
Then, just underneath Ubisoft’s update, it had what appears to be two lines of code: “ZKLWAVN MBEXNK ULYCNJ… LWY01… I#########F” and “// QNTMAKHX TWTEMZL. YSIZKQ AADSWX NFAAMPHP.//”
What Does the Assassin’s Creed Hexe Coding Mean?
At this time, we can only speculate, as Ubisoft has deliberately designed this tease to leave us all scratching our heads and discussing conspiracy theories on the internet (shocking, I know). The website Final Weapon claims that fans have already managed to decode what some of the cryptic messages could mean. The alleged translation below certainly reads like something straight out of the Assassin’s Creed series, particularly when it comes to the Animus, a device that allows users to access their ancestors’ memories and essentially relive history.
The decoded text reads: “LOADING ANIMUS MEMORY… SEQ01… B#########T CRITICAL FAILURE. MEMORY STREAM UNSTABLE.”
The coding was reportedly partly solved with a Vigenère cipher with the key “MEPHISTO” . Interestingly, the word Mephisto appeared in translations in the original Assassin’s Creed Hexe reveal trailer. There’s more, because some internet folk also believe that they uncovered what “B#########T” means. Fans have theorised that this 11-letter word is “BLUTGERICHT”, which roughly translates to “Blood Court”. This does sound like a term that could be used in a game that centres around witch trials and ancient dark magic, a known theme of Assassin’s Creed Hexe.
A Darker Assassin’s Creed
The cryptic message and the promise of a 2027 update reinforce that Assassin’s Creed Hexe is shaping up to be one of the most unique entries in the franchise. Set against the backdrop of the Holy Roman Empire’s witch trials, the game is expected to explore darker, more supernatural themes than previous titles. The “Blood Court” reference, if accurate, suggests a narrative steeped in persecution, paranoia, and perhaps the occult.

While we don’t have officially confirmed platforms just yet, there’s every chance that Assassin’s Creed Hexe would be released on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2. With Assassin’s Creed Shadows now in the rearview mirror and Black Flag Resynced on the horizon, Hexe represents the next major evolutionary step for the series.
Of course, we must take all the above with a pinch of salt until Ubisoft officially confirms otherwise, but it’s always fun to speculate, and it feels like Assassin’s Creed fans genuinely have something exciting to look forward to.
