GTA 6 isn’t going to be short on new features, but the latest being teased might be the best one in the series’ history.
Once we’ve gotten our hands on the game and can finally cruise through the streets of Vice City, we all know the first thing we’re going to do: stick on the radio. The traditional Grand Theft Auto radio stations are always packed with bangers past and present, but GTA VI could go a step beyond and give us full-on Spotify integration.
The Spotify Tease That Started It All
This week, the music streaming giant teased an interesting collaboration in the public eye. Spotify ads depicting snippets of GTA 6 artwork have been cropping up here and there, with the company’s X account drawing attention to them with a cheeky double-eye emoji.
Naturally, everyone was excited for what this could mean. The comments were rife with speculation that GTA 6 will let you link your Spotify to the in-game radios, so your own songs can soundtrack your gameplay.
Others tempered their expectations. Many speculated that this was a teaser for GTA VI‘s soundtrack being playable through Spotify, which is highly likely, but not as exciting. Unfortunately, Spotify gave nothing else away at the time — it didn’t reply to any of the comments, and it hasn’t made another mention about what could be coming.
The Official Announcement
Update: Spotify has since officially announced Grand Theft Auto VI: The Album, featuring songs from several big-name artists. The album will launch alongside the game on November 19.
The announcement confirms that Spotify and Rockstar Games have partnered for the game’s soundtrack release, putting to rest speculation about what the collaboration entails. While full in-game Spotify integration — allowing you to play your own playlists through the game’s radio stations — hasn’t been confirmed, the album release is a significant partnership in its own right.
What Full Integration Could Mean
Should full Spotify integration be what’s coming, it could be a literal game-changer. Xbox, PlayStation and PC all have their own separate Spotify support, which allows you to listen to your playlist while gaming, but having the ability to listen to your soundtrack in-game is something entirely different.
Imagine cruising down the Vice City coast at sunset with your own curated playlist playing through the in-game radio system. It would blur the line between the game’s world and your own music taste in a way no GTA game has done before.
If it turns out to just be a soundtrack reveal though, that wouldn’t be the worst outcome. You can still listen to your playlists while you’re playing games — you just have to tweak your settings a bit to get the right balance between in-game noise and your tunes.
A Platform for Real-World Promotions
Speculated Spotify support and other rumours make GTA 6 sound too good to be true. That Netflix Extended Look last month was breathtaking. Suddenly it made sense why Rockstar not only delayed the game’s release, but also its gameplay footage.
Yet it still feels like there’s a lot Rockstar isn’t telling us, like rumours that GTA VI will be utilised for a wide variety of real-world events and promotions. There’s talk of the game being used as a platform to promote product releases, like films and maybe albums.
While the details of the Spotify collaboration haven’t been fully confirmed, this is a promising sign that those rumours were true, even if only partially.

What’s Next for GTA 6
With the game set for launch on November 19, Rockstar has a couple of months left to tell us more. Hopefully the next iteration of GTA Online will be part of those announcements, along with a PC port.
