Earlier this month, Ubisoft released the fantastic remake of Assassin’s Creed Black Flag, a beloved entry in the franchise. The remake, titled Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced, improved on the original in almost every way, from visuals to combat, parkour, and stealth. The game has been embraced by the community, earning an 84 on Metacritic and surpassing three million copies sold within its first week. Yet, just a couple of weeks after its successful launch, Ubisoft has quietly removed a small but popular gameplay feature without any explanation.

The Feature: Toggling Your Hood During Leaps of Faith
One of the subtle but fun features added to the remake was the ability to pull Edward Kenway’s hood up and down at the press of a button. While it didn’t help much with stealth, it added a stylish touch to scenes and made for some incredible screenshots.
What players discovered shortly after release was that this toggle could be activated during the most cinematic moments: while sliding and, most impressively, while performing a Leap of Faith mid-air. Countless user-generated clips flooded social media, with fans showing off the feature.
The Removal: A Quiet Patch
This excitement was short-lived. Following the recent Title Update 1.0.4, players noticed that the ability to toggle the hood during slides and leaps of faith had been completely removed. A Reddit user lamented, “I booted up Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced after the recent update, and I was sad to find that the ability to hood toggle while sliding, and while in a mid-air leap of faith was removed, like, why? It was so cool…”.
Other players quickly confirmed the feature was gone. “Same for me. Heartbroken,” one replied, while another joked, “Is fun not allowed anymore?”.

The Mystery: No Explanation From Ubisoft
The frustration is compounded by a lack of communication. Looking through the patch notes for title update 1.0.4, there is no mention of this feature being removed. This has led to speculation that the removal might be a bug or an unintended side effect of other changes in the update.
Ubisoft has yet to formally address the issue or explain why the feature was removed. Fans hope that, as seen with feedback for previous titles like Assassin’s Creed Shadows, Ubisoft will listen to the community and restore the hood toggle in a future update.
Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced is available now on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S.
