In a world where CPU swap scams have become increasingly common, one Redditor appears to have experienced the rare reverse scenario: a free upgrade. According to a post on the r/pcmasterrace subreddit, a Ukrainian buyer ordered a Ryzen 7 7800X3D but received a Ryzen 7 9800X3D instead.
The user paid 14,400 UAH, approximately $350, for a tray version of the Ryzen 7 7800X3D. Meanwhile, the same retailer listed the Ryzen 7 9800X3D for 19,500 UAH, or about $475. That means the buyer received an unexpected $125 upgrade—provided the chip is genuine and functional.
A Rare Reverse Scam
Most stories of CPU mix-ups involve buyers receiving older, cheaper processors inside sealed boxes.
