With GTA 6 pre-orders officially going live on June 25, Rockstar Games has dropped another crucial piece of information for fans eager to jump into Vice City on day one. Mark your calendars: November 12, 2026, is set to be a major day for early adopters.

Pre-Loading Begins November 12
Rockstar has confirmed that players who pre-order digital versions of GTA VI on the PlayStation Store or Xbox Marketplace will be able to begin pre-loading the game starting on November 12, 2026. This gives players a full week to download the game ahead of its global launch on November 19. With the file size expected to be substantial – potentially exceeding 200 GB – this early window ensures even those with slower internet connections can be ready to play at midnight.
Physical Editions: Code in a Box, No Disc
In a move that has divided the community, Rockstar has confirmed that physical copies of GTA VI will not contain a disc. Instead, the box will contain a download code that can be redeemed for the digital version of the game. A disc will not be included.
This “code-in-a-box” approach means that even players who prefer physical media will need to download the game. However, Rockstar has confirmed that these physical editions will also be available starting November 12 to support pre-loading. This allows collectors to redeem their code and begin downloading alongside digital pre-order customers.
No Early Access
Rockstar has clarified that there will be no early access period for any version of the game. All players – regardless of whether they pre-ordered digitally or bought a physical code-in-a-box – will gain access to the game at the same time on the official launch date: November 19, 2026.
Editions and Pricing
Rockstar is offering two editions of GTA VI:
- Standard Edition ($79.99): The complete base single-player experience.
- Ultimate Edition ($99.99): Includes the base game plus an exclusive collection of premium vehicles, weapons, apparel, and additional content integrated across Jason and Lucia’s story.
All pre-orders and purchases before November 20, 2026, include the Vintage Vice City Pack. Digital pre-orders also include a free month of GTA+.

What This Means for Players
For digital buyers, the process is straightforward: pre-order, then download starting November 12. For physical buyers, the experience will be different from traditional game launches. Instead of inserting a disc, you’ll redeem a code and download the full game. The early availability of physical copies from November 12 ensures you won’t be left waiting on launch day.
Grand Theft Auto VI launches on November 19, 2026, for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. A PC version has not yet been announced.
