Grand Theft Auto fans are questioning whether Rockstar Games downgraded the graphics in the new GTA 6 launch trailer after comparing it to Trailer 2.

Following the exciting shadow drop of the GTA VI launch trailer on Rockstar Games’ social media channels, Grand Theft Auto fans are debating on Reddit whether the game has suffered a graphics downgrade or if something more stylistic is at play.
It’s not the first time this has happened, with Watch Dogs‘ impressive E3 2012 gameplay reveal footage drawing criticism when the game launched in 2014 with a significant visual downgrade. But has the same thing happened with GTA 6?
What Are GTA 6 Fans Saying?
The community is split on the issue. Some believe the trailer features an intentional cinematic filter, while others worry that the final game may look different from what was shown in Trailer 2.
“Did Rockstar add a blurry filter to the final game?” — AnimalDesatado
“Talking about DoF, blur, downgrade. No, it’s just a lot of blooming. Which worries me cause it seems they’ve forced the humid look similar to what we have in the bayou in RDR2, which, coupled with the vignette, we didn’t see clearly at all.” — The_XXI
“I would bet that it’s an artistic choice for this trailer; it seemed quite obvious to me. There’s no way Rockstar is going to these lengths to downgrade the game (which they’ve never done) when we are this close to release, and the Extended Look looked phenomenal, so I wouldn’t be worried.” — CheesyCheese
Many in this thread also suggested that the seemingly lesser detail or bloom effect could be down to the trailer being compressed for YouTube, and thus, downgrading the quality compared to GTA 6 Trailer 2. But that’s pure speculation at this point.
“Am I the only one who thinks the Launch Trailer looks way more bloomy and yellowish compared to Trailer 2? Trailer 2 looks sharper and more vibrant, while the Launch Trailer looks kinda blurry, and the depth of field seems way too strong.” — transparent_slime
“Could it be because of the different time of day and weather, or did they intentionally go for a more cinematic look in the Launch Trailer? Personally, I really liked how the game looked in Trailer 2.”
“Worked on AAA game trailers in the past. Marketing people will always push for colour correction (and stuff like bloom/glow) to ‘glue’ the shots together. For some reason they always think it makes it look more ‘premium’. I mean, yes, in the past graphics weren’t all that, so a little post indeed made it look nicer, but in this case it made it look worse.” — stakes_
“I assume it’s an artistic choice for the trailer (like 99.99% sure), but regardless, I just don’t like it at all. I think the original trailer looks better straight up.” — XerGR
“Really hoping it’s just a stylistic choice for the trailer. This trailer looks like someone smeared Vaseline over my screen.” — GodKamnitDenny
“I’ve seen so many posts complaining that the launch trailer looks bad, blurry, dark, or overly yellow. Have people seriously forgotten that filters exist? Rockstar clearly applied a stylistic filter to achieve the specific atmosphere and aesthetic they wanted for the trailer. That doesn’t mean the graphics have gotten worse, nor does it mean the actual game is going to have a permanent yellow tint.” — KushuumCat
Has GTA 6 Suffered a Graphics Downgrade?
It’s not outside the realm of possibility, but we can only speculate at this point. Only the folks at Rockstar Games know the true answer to that question. It’s possible that the graphics may have changed since GTA VI Trailer 2; after all, that trailer was released nearly 18 months ago by the time of writing. So chances are, GTA VI has had significant changes across the board, not just in the visuals department.
The Netflix Extended Look was released on October 16. That was a true and most recent representation of GTA VI‘s in-game graphics, and it does look very close to the standard we’ve seen in the launch trailer. As pointed out by many of the Reddit users, Rockstar Games could have simply added some visual changes to the trailer, such as bloom, to give the GTA VI launch trailer a cinematic movie feel.

It’s also worth keeping in mind that some of the images making the rounds compare Jason and Lucia driving in a car from the launch trailer with an officially released screenshot of what looks to be the same scene. Official screenshots are often given extra shine. Plus, Jason and Lucia could look different due to the in-game character customisation.
We’ll just have to wait until Grand Theft Auto VI releases on November 19, 2026, for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S to see if any of those concerns are addressed when we all get to play the game.
