AMD Brings 3D V‑Cache to PRO Workstation Lineup: Ryzen 9 PRO 9965X3D Leads Six New Chips
AMD has quietly expanded its Ryzen PRO 9000 series, adding six new Zen 5 desktop workstation processors. The new lineup includes the Ryzen 9 PRO 9965X3D, the Ryzen 9 PRO 9965, the Ryzen 9 PRO 9955, the Ryzen 7 PRO 9755X3D, the Ryzen 7 PRO 9755, and the Ryzen 5 PRO 9655. This is a substantial upgrade over the original three 65W PRO models (Ryzen 9 PRO 9945, 9745, 9645) introduced earlier.

The new chips introduce higher power envelopes – 120W and 170W – and bring AMD’s 3D V‑Cache technology to the PRO workstation segment.
Ryzen 9 PRO 9965X3D: The New PRO Flagship
The top‑of‑the‑line Ryzen 9 PRO 9965X3D features 16 Zen 5 cores and 32 threads, a 5.5 GHz boost clock, 128MB of L3 cache (including 3D V‑Cache), and a 170W TDP. In essence, this is the PRO‑system version of the consumer Ryzen 9 9950X3D, but with a different naming scheme to separate the product lines. A non‑X3D Ryzen 9 PRO 9965 also exists, with 64MB of L3 cache and the same 170W TDP.
12‑Core and 8‑Core Options
- Ryzen 9 PRO 9955 : 12 cores, 24 threads, 64MB L3, 120W TDP.
- Ryzen 7 PRO 9755X3D : 8 cores, 16 threads, 96MB L3 (3D V‑Cache), 120W TDP.
- Ryzen 7 PRO 9755 : 8 cores, 32MB L3, 120W TDP.
- Ryzen 5 PRO 9655 : 6 cores, 12 threads, 32MB L3, 120W TDP.
All new chips are designed for the AM5 socket , not the larger sTR5 platform. They target managed desktop and workstation systems from OEMs like Dell, HP, and Lenovo, offering AMD PRO technologies (security, manageability, and business reliability). They are not Threadripper PRO parts and are not intended for DIY consumer retail, though some may eventually appear in pre‑built workstations.
A Scalable PRO Stack
With configurations from six to 16 high‑performance cores and power envelopes from 65W to 170W, AMD now offers a full PRO workstation tier that scales from compact desktops to full‑tower systems. The addition of 3D V‑Cache to the PRO 9000 series brings cache‑sensitive workload benefits to business users in fields like simulation, data analysis, and compilation – areas where the extra L3 can make a measurable difference.

Availability
AMD has not announced specific availability dates, but Ryzen PRO processors typically launch alongside or shortly after their consumer counterparts. Expect systems featuring these new chips to arrive from major workstation vendors in the coming months.
