Palworld Highlights Important Changes Ahead of 1.0 Update – Wildlife Sanctuaries Get a Major Overhaul

Palworld developer Pocketpair has confirmed that the Wildlife Sanctuaries found throughout the game’s world map will be overhauled in the upcoming 1.0 release. The development team revealed these changes as the highly-anticipated July 10 launch date drew closer.

Palworld Highlights Important Changes Ahead of 1.0 Update – Wildlife Sanctuaries Get a Major Overhaul

A Complete Sanctuary Overhaul

Currently, Palworld’s Pal Sanctuaries are remote and rocky islands that players can only access by swimming or flying. However, the updated version will see them covered by barriers and guarded by flying drones, making it significantly more difficult to get through undetected.

Each Sanctuary will now have its own unique ecosystem – ranging from lush forests to rocky hot springs. These revamped areas will be filled with unique and powerful Pals for players to catch. Some of the Pals seen in the teaser include Astegon, Frostallion Noct, and Shadowbeak.

Beyond rare Pals, Pocketpair stated that players can find unique materials and encounter powerful bosses that call these new lands their home. The full extent of the increased challenge remains unclear, but the addition of barriers, drones, and tougher enemies suggests a much more demanding experience.

A Colossal Update: 27 Pages of Patch Notes

The 1.0 update is so extensive that it comes with a staggering 27 PDF pages of patch notes. Publishing lead John “Bucky” Buckley admitted that compiling the notes has been overwhelming. The sheer volume of changes and additions marks the largest update in the game’s history.

Beyond the Sanctuary overhaul, the update includes:

  • Tower Boss Overhaul: Boss fights have been reworked to be “much more dynamic and engaging,” with unique boss locations and personalities
  • The World Tree: The long-awaited endgame zone opens for high-level players
  • Sky Islands: Floating islands nearly double the size of the game’s world
  • New Pals: More new Pals than any previous patch, pushing the Paldeck past 200 creatures
  • Genetic Recombination: A breeding system that lets players mix legendary Pal genes
  • Full PvP Mode: A complete player-versus-player experience
  • Expanded Multiplayer: Dedicated server clusters for larger, more dynamic sessions
  • Progression Overhaul: Systems across both early and late game are being reworked
  • New Weapons and Armor: Fresh endgame equipment

Revamped World and Story

Palworld will also include story-driven missions that unravel the island’s mysteries, along with vast new areas to explore and existing areas improved to feel more alive. A second teaser showed Pals and humans coexisting in new ways, with examples including a fishing hut and a cliff-side digging site.

Save Data and New Beginnings

In light of all the changes, Pocketpair clarified that players do not need to erase any established save data. However, the developer recommends starting a new save file once version 1.0 goes live to fully experience the sweeping changes. Since Pals can be transferred between save files via the Global Palbox, players won’t lose their favorite creatures if they choose to start fresh.

The update will be free for all owners and available on PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and Game Pass. While Palworld will continue to receive post-launch support, Pocketpair noted that future updates will not match the size or frequency of the 1.0 release.
