With still no sign of a second trailer for Grand Theft Auto VI (GTA 6), fans are increasingly concerned that Rockstar Games might be preparing to delay the highly anticipated title. These worries have intensified after old comments from a former Rockstar employee resurfaced, suggesting the studio typically makes delay decisions just months before planned releases.
The game was initially announced in December 2023 with a 2025 release window, but Rockstar has remained silent since then. As we approach mid-2024 with no substantial updates, the community is bracing for potential bad news.

Why These Delay Rumors Feel Plausible
The concerns stem from a 2023 post by Obbe Vermeij, a former Rockstar technical director, who explained that the studio usually decides on delays about four months before a game’s scheduled launch.
“The decision to delay GTA IV was made 4 months or so before the original release date,” Vermeij wrote. “Any further and it’s hard to make the call. R is probably not in a position to determine whether they will hit 2025 until May-ish.”*
His comments have taken on new significance as we enter May with no trailer or gameplay reveals. Fans note that Rockstar has delayed every major release in recent memory, including GTA V and Red Dead Redemption 2.

The Community’s Divided Reactions
On Reddit and social media, players are split between resignation and cautious optimism:
- “If they delay it, they better at least show gameplay or give us something,” one frustrated fan wrote.
- Others speculate the game might have already been internally delayed from an original Spring 2025 target to Fall 2025.
- Some point out that Rockstar’s marketing approach for GTA 6 has already broken from tradition, leaving hope the “delay trend” might change too.
The lack of communication from Rockstar has only fueled more speculation. With Take-Two’s earnings call coming in May, many believe we’ll get clarity soon—for better or worse.
Why Rockstar Might Not Rush
Vermeij’s comments also highlighted Rockstar’s philosophy: “They are not going to release the game until they’re 100% happy with it. No matter what it said in the trailer.”
Given GTA 6’s expected decade-long sales lifespan and lack of direct competition, the studio has every incentive to take its time. A delay, while disappointing, could mean a more polished and groundbreaking experience at launch.

What’s Next?
All eyes are now on two key dates:
- May 15 – Take-Two’s earnings call, which could hint at GTA 6’s status
- Summer 2024 – The likely window for Trailer 2 if the game is still on track
If Rockstar stays silent through mid-year, delay rumors will only grow louder. But if the second trailer arrives soon, fans can breathe a sigh of relief—at least for now.
