FSR4 Adoption Grows, But Still Limited to RX 9000 GPUs
Three months after the RDNA 4 series announcement, AMD has expanded FSR4 support (FidelityFX Super Resolution 4) to 65 games, up from the initial 40. Unlike FSR3, FSR4 does not require direct developer integration—games that already support FSR3.1 can now use FSR4, provided users have compatible hardware and drivers.

However, FSR4 remains exclusive to Radeon RX 9000 GPUs, including:
- RX 9070 XT
- RX 9070
- RX 9070 GRE
- RX 9060 XT
Older GPUs (RX 7000 series and below) and RDNA 3.5 iGPUs (like Strix Halo’s Radeon 8000S) do not support FSR4.
New Drivers Expand FSR4 Compatibility
AMD recently released two drivers:
- Adrenalin 25.6.1 (WHQL) – Recommended for most users.
- FSR4 Technical Preview Driver – Adds support for 28 more games (but only for RX 9000 owners).
If you’re playing a game that requires the preview driver, you’ll need to install it—otherwise, sticking with the stable driver is best.

Will FSR4 Come to Older GPUs?
Unfortunately, AMD has not announced plans to bring FSR4 to older Radeon GPUs. Instead, the company is focusing on FSR Redstone, an upgraded version still limited to RDNA4 and future architectures.
Should You Upgrade to an RX 9000 GPU for FSR4?
If you’re considering an upgrade just for FSR4, weigh these factors:
- Better upscaling & performance in supported games
- Limited to RX 9000 GPUs (no backward compatibility)
- Ray tracing still lags behind NVIDIA
For most gamers, FSR3.1 or DLSS (on NVIDIA) may still be sufficient unless you’re investing in the latest AMD hardware.

AMD is steadily expanding FSR4’s game support, but adoption is slower than expected. If you own an RX 9000 GPU, check out the latest drivers to unlock better upscaling in supported games. For everyone else, FSR3.1 or competing tech (DLSS/XeSS) remains the best option.
