GTA 6 has confirmed at least 12 new gameplay features in the Game Informer coverage, which suggests the new Rockstar Games title will be the best in the Grand Theft Auto series, with a Game of the Year win feeling ever more likely.
We’re less than a month away from the highly anticipated next entry in the Grand Theft Auto series, and following exclusive coverage with media outlet Game Informer this week, Rockstar Games has revealed even more juicy gameplay details in GTA VI. The 14-page coverage reveals tons of new details, as well as confirming various rumours that have been circulating on social media in recent months, especially following those infamous gameplay leaks courtesy of CyberLeek.
In a Reddit thread, FireJach listed confirmed new gameplay details from the Game Informer coverage, and we’ll highlight some of the most interesting ones.
A Map Five Times Bigger Than GTA V
The map of GTA VI is confirmed to be five times bigger than GTA V. This massive expansion of Leonida will feature over 170 species of animals, including whales. Dynamic tropical storms and hurricanes are also confirmed, adding a new layer of environmental challenge to the game.
Vehicle Security and Theft
Vehicle security has improved significantly, and some cars have trackers, making theft more difficult. Others require special tools to enter. Vehicles can be registered on an app called WAink. Taxis and rideshares can be booked on an Uber-style app, and you can ride in a taxi with another NPC passenger and have conversations with them. Nearly 300 vehicles have been confirmed so far.
Localised Weather and Interiors
The Leonida map will have localised weather, so it can differ from region to region. Buildings will have more interiors than any game in the GTA series, making exploration more immersive than ever before.
Relationships and Activities
Friendships and relationships have no gameplay benefits, but they can have an effect on the story. Extra activities will include fishing, destruction derby races, ATVs, MX biking, mini golf, gyms, base jumping, kayaking, scuba diving, jet skiing, air boating, and more. Forests will have tree-lined patches, which should make mountain biking more immersive.
Social Media Doom-Scrolling
Jason and Lucia can doom-scroll on social media, adding a new layer of modern immersion to the game’s world.

Could GTA 6 Win Game of the Year?
Absolutely, it could, and to be honest, even though GTA VI isn’t even out yet, many would be surprised if Rockstar Games doesn’t pick up multiple GOTY gongs this year and early next. However, at least for The Game Awards 2026, Rockstar Games will be cutting it close with GTA VI. The cut-off date for The Game Awards 2025 was November 21, so it’s likely to be a similar window this year. GTA VI releases on November 19, so it should be fine in that respect. The Game Awards 2026 takes place on December 10.
Grand Theft Auto VI will be released on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S on November 19, 2026. Its PC release date hasn’t been announced yet by Rockstar Games.
