AMD’s 8‑Core X3D Chips Just Got More Affordable
Amazon has discounted two of AMD’s eight-core Ryzen X3D processors, offering significant savings on both the Zen 4 and Zen 5 generations. The Ryzen 7 7800X3D is currently available for $333.99, while the newer Ryzen 7 9800X3D has dropped to $414.99. Amazon lists discounts of 26% and 13%, respectively.

Both processors remain popular on Amazon. The retailer currently reports more than 5,000 Ryzen 7 9800X3D units purchased during the past month, while the Ryzen 7 7800X3D listing has shown more than 3,000 purchases over the same period.
Ryzen 7 7800X3D: The Zen 4 Value King
The Ryzen 7 7800X3D launched in April 2023 at $449, which puts the current price $115 below its original MSRP. The processor uses eight Zen 4 cores and 16 threads, with a 4.2 GHz base clock and up to 5.0 GHz boost. It also has 96MB of L3 cache through AMD’s 3D V-Cache technology and a 120W TDP.
Ryzen 7 9800X3D: Zen 5 with Second‑Gen 3D V‑Cache
The Ryzen 7 9800X3D arrived in November 2024 for $479, or $30 more than the 7800X3D at launch. At $414.99, it is now around $64 below that launch price. The Zen 5 processor keeps the same eight-core and 16-thread configuration with 96MB of L3 cache, but increases clocks to 4.7 GHz base and 5.2 GHz boost. It also uses AMD’s second-generation 3D V-Cache design and has the same 120W TDP.
Which One Should You Buy?
The price difference between the two processors is now $81. The 7800X3D therefore costs around 20% less than the 9800X3D, while both offer eight cores, 16 threads, 96MB of L3 cache and support for the AM5 platform.
For pure gaming performance, the 9800X3D offers a modest edge thanks to its higher clock speeds and newer architecture. However, the 7800X3D remains one of the best-value gaming processors on the market, delivering exceptional frame rates in cache-sensitive titles at a significantly lower price.
