If you’ve been waiting to play the original Red Dead Redemption on PlayStation Plus, your window is closing. Sony has announced that six games will depart the service in June, and leading the list is Rockstar’s 95‑rated masterpiece. The news comes just as Red Dead Redemption 2 rejoined the catalog – a bittersweet coincidence for fans hoping to marathon both games.

Red Dead Redemption’s Short Stay
Red Dead Redemption arrived on PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium back in December 2025. As is typical with Rockstar titles, the license lasts six months. That means the game will likely be removed on June 16, 2026 – just four weeks from now. It’s a heavy loss. The original Red Dead Redemption holds a 95 Metacritic score and is widely considered one of the best games of its generation. Its departure leaves a gap that even its sequel (currently available) can’t fully fill.
Fans are already lamenting the timing. One Reddit user wrote, “St, I wanted to play Red Dead.” Another added, “Fking hell, I just started RDR.” If you’re in the middle of John Marston’s journey, you have about a month to finish.
Other Games Leaving in June
Alongside Red Dead Redemption, five other titles will depart the service on the same date:
- The Incredibles
- Lawn Mowing Simulator Landmark Edition
- Lawn Mowing Simulator
- Scott Pilgrim vs. the World: The Game
- We Love Katamari REROLL + Royal Reverie
Many of these are shorter experiences. Scott Pilgrim can be completed in under five hours, and We Love Katamari also clocks in at around five hours for the main story. Even Lawn Mowing Simulator (16 hours) is manageable within a month.
Red Dead Redemption vs. Red Dead Redemption 2
This month marks the first time both Red Dead Redemption and its sequel have been available on PlayStation Plus simultaneously. Unfortunately, the overlap is brief. Red Dead Redemption 2 arrived with the May Extra lineup and is expected to stay for six months (until November). But the original will vanish in June.
If you want to experience the full arc – from John Marston’s redemption to Arthur Morgan’s tragedy – you’ll need to prioritize the first game. A completionist run of Red Dead Redemption takes about 45 hours, but the main story is only 16–18 hours. That’s doable over four weekends.

What’s Next?
The next PlayStation Plus Essential games for June will be announced on May 27, arriving on June 2. The Extra and Premium lineups for July will follow later. For now, if you’ve got Red Dead Redemption in your library, don’t delay. The Wild West is riding off into the sunset.
Red Dead Redemption is available on PS4 and PS5 via backward compatibility. A native PS5 version has not been released.
