While GTA 6 is currently set to launch in 2025, a former Rockstar Games developer has suggested that a delay is still possible.
Could GTA 6 Be Delayed?
Fans are eagerly awaiting an official release date for GTA IV, but according to Obbe Vermeij, a former developer at Rockstar Games, delays can happen even months before launch.
Discussing the game on Twitter, Vermeij shared insights into Rockstar’s development process:
“The decision to delay GTA IV was made four months or so before the original release date. Any further, and it’s hard to make the call. R is probably not in a position to determine whether they will hit 2025 until May-ish.”*

This means that while Rockstar aims for a 2025 release, they may not fully commit until mid-year.
Why No Second Trailer Yet?
Many fans have been concerned by the lack of a second GTA IV trailer. However, Vermeij believes Rockstar isn’t in a rush to release one. The game is already generating massive hype, and word-of-mouth marketing is doing the job for them.
He reassured fans that Rockstar will only launch the game when it’s fully polished, stating:
“GTA VI will sell for 10+ years, and there is no competition to worry about. They are not going to release the game until they’re 100% happy with it, no matter what was said in the trailer.”
PC Players May Have a Long Wait
A potential PC release for GTA IV has also been a hot topic. When a fan asked Vermeij about the wait for a PC version, he replied:
“2027 for you, I’m afraid.”
While this isn’t official confirmation, it aligns with Rockstar’s previous strategy, as GTA V launched on PC almost two years after the console versions.
Will GTA 6 Be Delayed?
At this point, Rockstar is still aiming for a 2025 release, but as Vermeij noted, delays can happen at any time. Fans can only hope the development stays on track, but if Rockstar needs more time, they won’t hesitate to push the launch back.
