The Witcher 3’s Mod Support Update
Fans of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt have a significant—though delayed—reason to return to the Continent. CD Projekt Red has officially announced that a major update introducing full cross-platform mod support is now scheduled for 2026. This highly anticipated feature was originally slated for release later this year but has been pushed back to ensure a polished experience.

This update is poised to fundamentally transform how console players experience the beloved RPG. Mirroring the popular modding systems in Bethesda games like Skyrim and Fallout 4, the new platform will allow players on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S to browse, download, and install a curated list of fan-made modifications directly within the game.
This means console players, for the first time, will have access to a vast library of community-created content that has until now been exclusive to the PC version. The potential for new adventures is immense, ranging from new weapons and gear to entirely new quests, characters, and gameplay overhauls. This official support promises to make an already infinitely replayable game feel fresh for years to come.
The delay, while disappointing, follows CD Projekt Red’s commitment to quality following the launch of Cyberpunk 2077. The studio stated that the extra time is necessary to ensure the complex system of uploading, approving, and distributing mods across multiple platforms works seamlessly and securely for all players. Notably, the mod support will not be coming to the Nintendo Switch versions of the game.

This update has the potential to unlock countless new ways to experience Geralt’s journey, ensuring that The Witcher 3 remains a staple of gaming libraries long before its sequel, The Witcher 4, arrives.
