New Witcher 3 Mod
The world of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt continues to expand, not through official DLC, but through the incredible passion of its modding community. The latest standout creation is a narrative mod titled “Dawn over Kovir,” which fulfills a long-held fan desire: allowing players to take on the role of Ciri in a completely new, hour-long adventure that feels like a direct prelude to the upcoming The Witcher 4.

Crafted by solo developer Alexander Fander-Maslov using CD Projekt Red’s official REDkit modding tools, this mod is designed to be played after completing the main game. It casts Ciri in her new life as a full-fledged witcher, tasked with navigating a transformed, mountainous region of the Skellige Isles that has been meticulously redesigned to evoke the frozen, industrial kingdom of Kovir—a location heavily featured in the teaser for the next game.
The mod’s narrative is explicitly inspired by the tone and themes of The Witcher 4‘s cinematic reveal, focusing on Ciri’s internal struggle to balance her inherent compassion with the fury of her powers. It serves as a fascinating narrative bridge, offering players a tangible taste of what playing as the legendary Lion Cub of Cintra might feel like in the next chapter of the saga.
“Dawn over Kovir” is a substantial addition, taking between 45 minutes to 90 minutes to complete and featuring custom environments, quests, and enemy encounters. It requires the Witcher 3 Community Patch and the Custom Player Characters mod to function and is available for free on Nexus Mods. The developer has also announced plans to update the mod with a full voiceover before the end of 2026.
