Red Dead Redemption 2 Mod
The wild west just got more dangerous and financially sophisticated thanks to an impressive new mod that brings fully functional banks to Red Dead Redemption 2’s free roam. “Banks of the West” introduces a comprehensive banking system that transforms how players manage their money while adding the high-stakes thrill of bank robberies outside of story missions.

This fan-created expansion adds operational banks to four key towns: Valentine, Rhodes, Saint Denis, and Blackwater. Players can now use these establishments for legitimate financial purposes, depositing and withdrawing cash to protect their earnings. However, the real excitement comes from the ability to rob these banks at any time by simply pointing a gun at the teller, much like robbing a store in the base game.
The robbery mechanics are surprisingly detailed. Once threatened, the teller leads players to the back safes where they can attempt to steal varying amounts of cash. The potential reward scales with how many safes players manage to crack, offering thousands of dollars for successful heists. However, this criminal activity comes with severe consequences—a massive $1,000 bounty automatically applied after any bank robbery.
The mod introduces a sophisticated risk-reward system that completely changes how players approach money and death. If players die, they lose all cash they’re carrying, creating a strong incentive to deposit money regularly. But keeping money in banks isn’t entirely safe either—if players die while wanted with a bounty over $100, authorities can seize 50% of their bank balance.
Additional consequences include bank lockdowns after robberies, making the targeted institution inaccessible for several days, and the option to surrender to authorities, which clears bounties but empties both pockets and bank accounts entirely.
This mod addresses what many players felt was an underdeveloped aspect of Red Dead Redemption 2—the limited opportunities for bank heists outside specific story missions. By integrating these features seamlessly into the existing game world, “Banks of the West” enhances the outlaw fantasy while adding meaningful consequences that make financial decisions genuinely impactful.
