Their conclusion was blunt: owners should avoid opening the Founders Edition card at all costs. This warning highlights a critical vulnerability that could turn a simple modification into a $2,000 paperweight.
The Achilles’ Heel: A Tiny, Unobtainable Connector
The core of the problem lies in the card’s unique design. Unlike most graphics cards, which are a single circuit board, the RTX 5090 Founders Edition uses a split, multi-board design. The PCIe connector, which slots into your motherboard, is on a separate piece that connects to the main board via a high-density internal connector.
