PlayStation Meets Magic Crossover Card Collection
In an unprecedented fusion of gaming worlds, Sony Interactive Entertainment has teamed up with Wizards of the Coast to bring some of PlayStation’s most beloved characters to the realm of Magic: The Gathering. The newly announced Secret Lair x PlayStation Superdrop, launching October 27, transforms iconic heroes and stories into collectible trading cards, complete with unique mechanics and stunning artwork developed in close collaboration with the original studios.
This special collaboration features seven distinct Secret Lair drops, each dedicated to a legendary PlayStation franchise. Fans can look forward to cards inspired by The Last of Us, God of War, Horizon Forbidden West, Ghost of Tsushima, and Uncharted. Each pack reimagines key characters, locations, and items, blending the rich lore of PlayStation games with the strategic depth of Magic: The Gathering.
The partnership saw Wizards of the Coast working directly with Naughty Dog, Santa Monica Studio, Guerrilla, and Sucker Punch Productions to ensure authenticity. For instance, the God of War set is split into two packs—”Greek” and “Norse”—to reflect Kratos’s journey from a vessel of rage to a mentoring father. Similarly, the Ghost of Tsushima card captures Jin Sakai’s duality, allowing players to choose between honorable samurai combat or the stealthy tactics of the Ghost.
Neil Druckmann, Studio Head at Naughty Dog, expressed his enthusiasm, noting, “We have so many longtime Magic: The Gathering fans at Naughty Dog… We’ve packed these cards full of memorable characters, moments, and Easter eggs.” Cory Barlog of Santa Monica Studio highlighted the thoughtful design, explaining how Kratos’s card mechanics evolve to mirror his character arc across the games.
