A sequel to Hogwarts Legacy has been confirmed to be in development, but Warner Bros. Games has kept official details closely guarded. However, a series of recent moves by developer Avalanche Software may have just revealed the studio’s launch plans—and they point to a much sooner release than many expected.
The Hiring That Spills the Secrets
Earlier this year, Warner Bros. Games CEO JB Perrette stated that the company would “return to some of our biggest franchises” in 2027 or 2028. Hogwarts Legacy, having sold over 40 million copies, is unquestionably its biggest gaming property. Many interpreted this as an announcement window, but new evidence suggests the actual launch could be as early as 2027.
Avalanche Software recently hired a new community manager, Cody. On its own, a community manager hire might seem mundane. But community managers are typically brought on when a game is ready to begin its marketing push—they need a product to engage the community about.
The previous community manager, Chandler Wood, was hired in December 2021. Perhaps the most telling factor is Warner Bros.’ stated desire to link its Harry Potter TV reboot with the Hogwarts Legacy franchise. The HBO series, titled Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, premieres its first episode in December 2026 and will air through early 2027.
Having a new Hogwarts Legacy game launch around that time would be a perfect cross‑promotional opportunity. The sequel could arrive in 2027, capturing the renewed Pottermania while giving fans a new interactive adventure to occupy them between seasons.
