GTA 6 Officially Delayed, New Release Date
In an announcement that confirms the fears of many fans, Rockstar Games has officially delayed Grand Theft Auto VI for a second time. The highly anticipated sequel will no longer meet its initial May 26, 2026, release date and is now scheduled to launch on November 18, 2026.

The studio broke the news directly to its community via a post on social media. In the statement, Rockstar apologized for the extended wait but explained that the decision was made to ensure the game meets the high standards players expect.
“These extra months will allow us to finish the game with the level of polish you have come to expect and deserve,” the statement read. Rockstar also expressed excitement for players to finally experience the world of Leonida and a modern-day Vice City, albeit a little later than planned.
This new delay adds another six months to the development timeline. Combined with the first delay that moved the game from a tentative 2025 window, the total postponement now amounts to approximately a full year. This underscores the immense pressure and scale of the project, which is one of the most anticipated entertainment releases in history.
The reaction from the fanbase has been a mix of understanding and disappointment. On social media, one fan lamented, “I’m gonna die at this point before the game ends up releasing,” while another pointed out, “My brother in christ it’s been 12 years since the last GTA game.” Others tried to find a silver lining, with comments like, “Every delay = better game.”
The delay also means that expectations for imminent news, such as the opening of pre-orders or a third trailer, should be tempered. Rockstar is clearly entering a final, extended polishing phase, prioritizing quality over meeting the original deadline.
