GTA 6 Install Size
As the gaming industry continues to push technological boundaries, one inevitable consequence is the ever-expanding size of game installations. With Grand Theft Auto VI poised to be Rockstar Games’ most ambitious project yet, players are already bracing for what could be a record-breaking install size that may require serious storage management.

The discussion has gained momentum across gaming forums and social media, where the prevailing theory suggests GTA VI will likely require between 100-150GB of storage space. This estimate seems conservative when considering the evolution of Rockstar’s previous titles and the game’s exclusive development for current-generation hardware.
The growth in Rockstar’s game sizes provides important context. The original release of Grand Theft Auto V on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 occupied approximately 17GB. As the game received enhancements for newer platforms, its size expanded significantly—the PC version reached 70GB, while the upgraded PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S version now sits at around 100GB.
More telling is Red Dead Redemption 2, Rockstar’s most recent major release, which demands approximately 150GB on console platforms. Given that GTA VI is being built exclusively for modern systems without the constraints of previous-generation hardware, it’s reasonable to expect it will at minimum match this size, with many speculating it could easily exceed 200GB, especially for the eventual PC release.
This substantial storage requirement reflects the increasing detail and scope of modern open-world games. Higher resolution textures, more complex animations, larger maps, and more extensive audio files all contribute to the ballooning install sizes that have become standard for AAA titles.

For players planning their storage strategy, the May 2026 release date provides ample time to consider options. Many may need to clear space on their internal SSDs for optimal performance or invest in compatible external storage solutions. While the final install size remains unconfirmed, the community consensus suggests preparing for what could be one of the largest game installations in history when GTA VI finally arrives.
