What the GTA 5 Update Reveals About GTA 6

Digital Foundry’s Alex Battaglia recently analyzed the latest GTA 5 update, noting that the advanced lighting techniques, such as RTGI, could be a preview of GTA VI’s visuals.

“We still don’t think GTA VI will be a 60fps game on consoles,” Battaglia explained. “GTA V on PC indicates that the set-up costs for RT are too much for 60fps on console-equivalent CPUs. So while RTGI is relatively light on the GPU, it is far heavier on the CPU side and is more limiting as a result.”

This suggests that Rockstar might be using GTA 5 as a testing ground for the advanced graphics technology that will power GTA VI.

How to See GTA 6’s Graphics in GTA 5

If you have a powerful PC, you can experience these next-gen visuals for yourself by playing the enhanced edition of GTA 5. The update introduces ray-traced global illumination, which dramatically improves lighting, shadows, and reflections, making the game look more realistic than ever.

While these changes might impact performance, they offer a glimpse of what GTA VI could look like when it launches later this year.

Why This Matters for GTA 6

Using GTA 5 as a testing ground for GTA VI’s graphics makes sense. It allows Rockstar to fine-tune advanced lighting techniques in a large open-world environment before implementing them in their next blockbuster.

As Battaglia noted, “It’s going to make for a gorgeous game.” This approach ensures that GTA VI will deliver stunning visuals while maintaining the performance and stability players expect from Rockstar.
