GTA 6 Heartwarming Gesture
In an act of profound kindness that transcends the typical hype of a blockbuster release, Rockstar Games has seemingly made a fan’s final wish come true. Reports indicate the developer arranged for a terminally ill individual to play GTA 6 months before its scheduled launch.

The story began with a heartfelt plea from Anthony Armstrong, a developer at Ubisoft Toronto. On LinkedIn, Armstrong shared that a family member, a dedicated fan of the series, had been diagnosed with cancer and given six to twelve months to live. With GTA 6 set for release in November 2026, the timeline was tragically uncertain.
Armstrong reached out to his professional network, hoping to connect with someone at Rockstar. His goal was to arrange a private, confidential play session so his loved one could experience the game they might not live to see launch. “He may not be around long enough to actually get to see GTA 6 launch,” Armstrong wrote in his now-deleted post.
The outcome, however, speaks volumes. In a follow-up update, Armstrong shared simply: “We spoke to them today and got great news.” While no specific details were disclosed—and the original posts were later removed, often a sign of a private agreement—the implication is clear: Rockstar Games facilitated this special access.
This compassionate decision fits a respected pattern within the gaming industry and Rockstar’s own history. In 2018, the studio similarly allowed a dying fan in the Netherlands to play Red Dead Redemption 2 before its official release. These gestures highlight the deep, personal connection players form with these virtual worlds.
It is important to temper expectations about what “playing” the game entailed. With the launch still roughly ten months away, the build would likely be an incomplete, pre-release version. Yet, the symbolic value is immeasurable. For a devoted fan, it represents the culmination of a long anticipation and a generous gift from the creators.
