Ghost of Tsushima on Xbox?
For a brief moment, the gaming world was set abuzz. Ghost of Tsushima, the acclaimed PlayStation exclusive from Sucker Punch Productions, was spotted on an Xbox store page, leading to widespread confusion and speculation about a potential industry-shifting release. However, the reality behind the listing is less about software exclusivity and more about the evolving definition of an “Xbox” device.

The confusion is understandable. Seeing a flagship Sony title like Ghost of Tsushima on a Microsoft storefront immediately sparks dreams of a world without console exclusivity. Yet, this particular listing is almost certainly related to the upcoming launch of the ROG Ally X, an handheld gaming PC that will be part of the “Xbox” ecosystem through its integration with Windows and the Xbox app.
Devices like the ROG Ally and Steam Deck are, at their core, portable PCs. They run a Windows operating system and have access to storefronts like Steam and the Microsoft Store. Because Ghost of Tsushima has a PC version available on Steam, it will be playable on these handheld devices. The listing on the Xbox store likely reflects this PC version’s availability through the broader Microsoft Store, which is accessible on Windows-based hardware—including the new ROG Ally.

This incident highlights a key shift in the market. The line between a dedicated Xbox console and a Windows PC is blurring. While Sony has begun bringing some of its titles to PC, it has shown no indication of releasing its major single-player franchises like Ghost of Tsushima, God of War, or The Last of Us on competing consoles like the Xbox Series X/S. The exception, Helldivers 2, is a live-service game that benefits massively from cross-play, making it a special case.
So, for Xbox console owners hoping to boot up Ghost of Tsushima natively on their Series X, this listing is a false dawn. The game remains a PlayStation and PC exclusive. However, it does mean that players who invest in the upcoming ROG Ally handheld will be able to experience Jin Sakai’s journey on a portable device branded under the Xbox umbrella.
