Forza Horizon 6 for 2026 with Japan Setting
The wait is over for racing fans. Playground Games has officially unveiled the next chapter in its acclaimed open-world racing series, confirming that Forza Horizon 6 will launch in 2026 and will be set in Japan. The announcement, made during the Xbox Tokyo Game Show 2025 broadcast, ends years of speculation and fulfills one of the community’s most passionate requests.

A cinematic teaser trailer offered the first glimpse of the new setting, showcasing iconic vistas like Mount Fuji, vibrant neon-lit city streets, and serene countryside roads. Art Director Don Arceta explained that Japan’s unique blend of culture, from its automotive passion to its music and fashion, makes it an ideal fit for the Horizon Festival vibe. The development team is leveraging the technical experience gained from Forza Horizon 5 and its expansions to authentically capture the country’s diverse environments.
The commitment to authenticity extends beyond the scenery. The studio has worked with cultural consultant Kyoko Yamashita to embed genuine details into the world, aiming to avoid stereotypes and create a living, immersive environment. Players can expect careful attention to ambient sounds, accurate signage, and the nation’s distinct seasonal changes, including the famous cherry blossom season.
Japanese car culture will be a central pillar of the experience. The developers have confirmed a deep focus on elements like drifting and extensive vehicle customization. The roster will also celebrate the full spectrum of Japanese automotive history, expected to include everything from high-performance sports cars to popular kei cars.
