Assassins Creed Shadows Scraps Plans
In a significant shift from its recent tradition, Ubisoft has confirmed that Assassins Creed Shadows will not receive a second major story expansion. This decision marks a change in strategy for the franchise’s post-launch support, moving away from the large, paid DLC packs that were a staple of previous games.

The news was revealed by Associate Game Director Simon Lemay-Comtois in a recent interview. He stated that while the team is still planning content for the game’s second year, “there is no expansion on the size of [the first DLC] Awaji that is planned.”
This will likely come as a disappointment to fans who have become accustomed to substantial narrative DLC for mainline Assassin’s Creed titles. Games like Origins, Odyssey, and Valhalla all received multiple large expansions that significantly extended their stories.
Lemay-Comtois explained that the development team is “re-adjusting” its approach for Year Two. Instead of a constant “drip-feed” of smaller content, the new strategy is to release “chunkier updates that shake things up a little more.” The goal is to provide meaningful reasons for players to return, but in a different format than a traditional story expansion.
The first DLC, Claws of Awaji, was initially intended to be part of a paid Season Pass but was ultimately released for free. The cancellation of a follow-up expansion suggests Ubisoft is re-evaluating its long-term content model for the franchise.

While this means less traditional story content for Assassin’s Creed Shadows, the developers assure that support for the game is continuing. Players can expect new, substantial free updates, though the exact nature of this content has not yet been detailed.
