For professionals and enthusiasts who build their own high-powered workstations, a new contender is entering the market. AMD has officially announced that its Radeon AI PRO R9700 graphics card will be available for retail purchase starting October 27th. Previously only available through pre-built systems from OEMs, this launch opens the door for do-it-yourself (DIY) builders to get their hands on AMD’s latest workstation-focused technology.
The company also confirmed the official Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) of $1,299. This price point positions the R9700 as a powerful tool for developers, data scientists, and creators who need substantial memory and compute power without the cost of flagship enterprise cards.
Powerful Specs for Demanding Workloads
The Radeon AI PRO R9700 is built on AMD’s new RDNA 4 architecture and is the first professional model to use the Navi 48 GPU. Its most standout feature is its generous 32GB of GDDR6 memory, which is double the capacity of its gaming-oriented sibling, the Radeon RX 9070 XT. This vast memory pool is crucial for handling large AI models, complex simulations, high-resolution video editing, and 3D rendering tasks.
With a rated Total Board Power (TBP) of 300W, the card draws power from two traditional 8-pin connectors. For display outputs, it is equipped with four DisplayPort 2.1 ports, supporting multiple high-resolution monitors. The card features a blower-style cooler, which is designed to exhaust heat directly out of the case, making it ideal for stacking multiple GPUs in a single system—a common requirement in AI research and rendering farms.
