Hogwarts Legacy Free New Multiplayer Mode Comes Alongside Warning Players Must Heed

While a sequel to Hogwarts Legacy is on the way, it’s yet to manifest, so you can understand why players may be drawn to the world of modding.

Hogwarts Legacy‘s post-launch support has been abysmal, with very little new content outside of the addition of a photo mode and a couple of cosmetic items. Players are undoubtedly craving something new to tide them over, and mods can provide that — and ever since Hogwarts Legacy launched, a multiplayer mode has been of great interest.

I think the vast majority of us are hoping that Hogwarts Legacy‘s sequel remains a single-player title despite rumours of the franchise going live-service. That being said, there’s no harm in experimenting with the idea of multiplayer via mods.

The Rise of a New Multiplayer Mod

The most high-profile multiplayer offering is ‘HogWarp‘, which is available on Nexus Mods and while it works decently, it’s not been updated since February of 2025. That’s why a new offering on the market has risen up NexusMods’ Hogwarts Legacy chart.

‘Wandrealm’ has appeared from creator napstergucio124, having achieved thousands of views in just a couple of days. The mod promises to add a fully working free multiplayer mode to Hogwarts Legacy, but it looks as if it may meet the criteria of “too good to be true.”

‘Wandrealm’ claims to “turn Hogwarts Legacy into a shared adventure.” According to its description: “Wandrealm is a free multiplayer mod that lets you explore, fly, cast spells and experience the wizarding world with other players. Multiplayer is already working in testing, with more co-op features on the way.”

The mod claims to make use of its own multiplayer layer so that you can keep your single-player playthrough going separately, with a roadmap promising to see the addition of “new synchronisation, social and co-op systems.”

The Warning: Suspicious Files Flagged

It sounds like it ticks all of the boxes, but ‘Wandrealm’ has been flagged by NexusMods as containing “some suspicious files.” NexusMods users have already taken to pointing this out, warning others who may be considering downloading ‘Wandrealm.’

“First time seeing some suspicious files.”

“I may have never noticed before, but this is the first time I’ve seen something say, ‘some suspicious files’ next to the Nexus virus scan.”

“File quarantine. AI pics. Great signs.”

Just because a mod makes it onto NexusMods, it doesn’t mean it’s safe to download.

A Cautionary Tale for Mod Users

At this stage, it’s impossible to say whether ‘Wandrealm’ is a well-intentioned new fan release or if that virus flag suggests it’s trying to dupe Hogwarts Legacy players into downloading malware. If we’re to assume the former, it’s odd that the creators of ‘Wandrealm’ are yet to acknowledge any of the comments left on the mod’s listing. There are no apologies or declarations to investigate what’s potentially being flagged, which adds evidence to the camp that maybe this creation really does include something awry.

It’s with that in mind that it’s perhaps safer to steer clear of this mod for now, despite it getting plenty of attention from NexusMods users. It’s a good reminder that not every mod is safe and NexusMods’ virus scan is there for a reason, so heed its warnings.

For those seeking a multiplayer Hogwarts Legacy experience, ‘HogWarp’ remains the safer, more established option — though it’s worth noting it hasn’t been updated in over a year.

Hogwarts Legacy is available now on PC, PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch. A sequel is in development at Avalanche Software.
