For fans of Andrzej Sapkowski’s original Witcher books, the world of Witcher 3 Geralt of Rivia has always been as much about the written word as the interactive experience. Now, a dedicated modder is bringing those pages to life. The Last Wish Project, created by modder Samuel Ch, adds the short stories from Sapkowski’s first book as playable quests within The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – and the first chapter is available now for free.

Adapting a Classic
The Last Wish is a collection of short stories that introduced the world to Geralt, Yennefer, and the law of surprise. It’s where the entire saga begins. Samuel Ch’s mod aims to faithfully adapt each story, presented as flashbacks that Geralt recalls during his adventures. The project is currently in alpha, with the first story – “The Lesser Evil” – already playable. This is the tale that introduces the concept of the “lesser evil” and features the memorable character of Renfri.
The modder’s philosophy is to create an experience that “compliments the books, not an RPG.” That means the quest will play more like a focused action‑adventure than a sprawling role‑playing game, stripping back some of the open‑world mechanics to better mirror the tight, character‑driven nature of Sapkowski’s prose.
A Labor of Love
Samuel Ch has deep roots in the Witcher modding community. In a statement on the project’s website, he explained his motivation: “The art of The Witcher kindled a truly European sensitivity in the medium, which felt home to me. I fell in love with it way back as a child, and when the first editor came out many years ago, I spent thousands upon thousands of hours in it.”
He added that rediscovering the book and rebuilding it within the new REDkit editor felt like a retreat – a way to express his passions and connect with the community. The result is a lovingly crafted tribute that should delight book readers who always wanted to step directly into the pages of The Last Wish.

How to Play
The alpha build of The Last Wish Project is available for download from the mod’s official website or from the The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Nexus Mods page. It requires the base game and is free. Future updates will add the remaining stories from the collection, each presented in the same “solid and faithful skeleton.”
For those who have spent countless hours hunting monsters and playing Gwent, this mod offers a new reason to return to the Continent – one that honors the literary roots of the entire franchise.
