Ubisoft has officially unveiled Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced, and fans are already digging into every detail. One of the most delightful discoveries comes not from a trailer, but from the game’s listing in the Animus Hub – the franchise’s digital library available through Assassin’s Creed Shadows. The entry features a recreation of one of the most iconic pieces of key art from the original Black Flag, showing Edward Kenway holding a pistol to his chest with his wrist blade extended. It’s a loving nod to the 2013 classic, and a signal that Resynced aims to honor its predecessor while forging its own path.

A Familiar Pose, A Fresh Adventure
The image, first spotted by community account Access The Animus (via AC: Landmarks), captures Edward in the same stance that adorned posters and game cases over a decade ago. The updated visuals, however, reflect the power of modern hardware – sharper textures, improved lighting, and a level of detail that brings the pirate captain to life like never before. The Animus Hub entry is already live for those who own Assassin’s Creed Shadows, offering a tantalizing preview of what’s to come.
What’s New in Resynced?
Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced launches July 9, 2026 on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S. The remake introduces several significant upgrades:
- Parkour Overhaul: Movement has been refined to feel more natural and fluid, while preserving Edward’s signature animations.
- Dynamic Weather: Storms, fog, and changing tides affect both exploration and naval combat.
- New Side Stories: Supporting characters now have their own questlines, rewarding players with powerful Jackdaw upgrades.
- Mission Adjustments: Infamous tailing and eavesdropping missions no longer instantly fail when spotted – instead, enemies attack, and you can fight back.
Crucially, Ubisoft has confirmed that Resynced will not include RPG mechanics. The combat has been modernized with new moves (human shields, environmental pushes), but the core experience remains true to the original.

What’s Missing?
The remake does come with some sacrifices. The multiplayer mode from Black Flag – a beloved cat‑and‑mouse assassination game – will not return. Additionally, the acclaimed Freedom Cry DLC, which follows Edward’s first mate Adéwalé, is absent. Ubisoft has stated that the decision was made to focus resources on the main campaign and new side content. The original version of Black Flag will remain available for purchase, so players who want to experience those modes can still do so.

A Future of Remakes
Resynced may not be the only classic returning. Insider Tom Henderson has suggested that Ubisoft is working on another Assassin’s Creed remake, likely of the very first game starring Altair Ibn‑La’Ahad. If true, fans could soon relive the Crusades with modern gameplay sensibilities.
For now, all eyes are on Edward Kenway. The Animus Hub throwback is a small but meaningful touch, reminding players why Black Flag remains one of the most beloved entries in the series. Set sail on July 9.
