AMD Officially Prices Ryzen 9 9950X3D2 at $899, Launching April 22

AMD has closed the pricing question surrounding its most powerful desktop processor. In a post by David McAfee, AMD’s VP and GM of Ryzen CPU and Radeon Graphics, the company confirmed that the Ryzen 9 9950X3D2 Dual Edition will be available on April 22 at an MSRP of $899.

The announcement ends weeks of speculation that followed the chip’s initial unveiling. Early retail listings had shown placeholder prices well above $1,000 in some regions, but the official figure is significantly lower—though still a substantial premium over the existing 9950X3D.

A $200 Premium Over the 9950X3D

The Ryzen 9 9950X3D launched at $699, making the new Dual Edition $200 more expensive —a 29% increase. For context, the standard 9950X3D currently retails for around $675 on Amazon, so at launch the 9950X3D2 will sit roughly 33% above its predecessor’s street price.

That premium buys a unique configuration: 3D V-Cache stacked on both of the chip’s 8-core chiplets. The result is 192 MB of L3 cache (96 MB per CCD) and 208 MB total on-chip cache when including L2. The chip also carries a 200W TDP, making it the first X3D desktop part to ship with that power target out of the box. Boost clock is rated at 5.6 GHz, slightly below the 9950X3D’s 5.7 GHz.

Positioned for Content Creation

Unlike previous X3D chips, which were marketed primarily to gamers, AMD is positioning the 9950X3D2 toward content creation and workstation workloads. The company claims performance gains of 5% to 13% over the 9950X3D in tasks like rendering, compilation, and data science. Those gains are likely driven in part by the higher TDP, which allows the chip to sustain higher clocks under multi-threaded loads.

For pure gaming, the additional cache on the second CCD may offer diminishing returns compared to the single-V-Cache 9950X3D or even the 9800X3D. But for users who need maximum cache for large datasets, simulations, or professional applications, the 9950X3D2 fills a new niche.
