Battlefield 6 Update Controversial
Following sustained player feedback, EA and DICE have confirmed that two of Battlefield 6‘s most debated cosmetic items will be altered in an upcoming game update. The changes target the “Winter Warning” sticker and the “Objective Ace” mask skin, both of which drew significant criticism from the community for clashing with the game’s visual identity and raising questions about their origin.

The developer outlined the planned adjustments in the patch notes for version 1.1.3.6, scheduled for release on February 3. The note states the items will be changed to “better align with Battlefield’s visual identity,” though specific details on the new designs were not provided.
The controversy began in late 2025. Players quickly flagged the “Winter Warning” sticker, used on player cards, for appearing potentially AI-generated. Critics pointed to glaring inaccuracies, such as the depicted M4A1 rifle having two barrels and the soldier’s hands being anatomically misplaced—common hallmarks of AI image generation errors.
Simultaneously, the “Objective Ace” mask skin faced accusations of directly copying the distinctive logo from Call of Duty: Ghosts. Side-by-side comparisons showed striking similarities in the patterns of cracks and streaks, leading many to believe it was either intentional referencing or another case of AI-derived artwork.
This update represents a direct response to community sentiment. While Battlefield 6 enjoyed a massively successful launch, the studio has demonstrated a willingness to course-correct based on player input regarding aesthetics and immersion. The issue also taps into a larger, ongoing industry conversation about the use of artificial intelligence in art creation for games.
DICE had previously stated that AI was used only in the “preparatory stages” of development and assured players they would not see AI-generated assets in the final game. The “Winter Warning” sticker controversy tested that assurance, putting the studio in a position where action was necessary to maintain player trust.
