Horizon Zero Dawn Live-Action Film Targets 2027
Fans of the acclaimed Horizon video game series won’t have to wait much longer to see Aloy’s world transition to the big screen. Recently revealed court documents confirm that the live-action film adaptation of Horizon Zero Dawn is progressing rapidly, with plans to begin filming next year and target a 2027 theatrical release.

The update came to light during Sony’s ongoing legal proceedings against Tencent, where PlayStation Productions head Asad Qizilbash provided details about the project’s status. “We already have a working script and are actively searching for a director, with the goal of shooting the picture in 2026 and releasing it in 2027,” Qizilbash stated in court filings.
The film represents the latest collaboration between PlayStation Productions and Columbia Pictures, following their successful partnerships on the 2022 “Uncharted” film starring Tom Holland and the 2023 “Gran Turismo” movie. This track record suggests the Horizon adaptation will follow a similar production quality and marketing approach.
The original Horizon Zero Dawn, released in 2017, quickly became one of PlayStation’s most beloved exclusive franchises. The game follows hunter Aloy in a post-apocalyptic world overrun by mechanical creatures, blending stunning open-world exploration with a compelling narrative about discovering one’s past in a dangerous future. Its 2022 sequel, Horizon Forbidden West, further expanded the universe and critical acclaim.
The court documents emerged as part of Sony’s legal challenge against Tencent for publishing “Light of Motiram,” a game allegedly mimicking Horizon’s distinctive style and mechanics. While this legal battle continues separately, it inadvertently provided the clearest timeline yet for the highly anticipated film adaptation.
