GTA Online Gets a Spooky Taste of Red Dead’s Undead Nightmare
Grand Theft Auto Online is no stranger to wild and wacky events, but the latest announcement from Rockstar Games has particularly caught players’ attention. The game is about to get a serious dose of horror with a new event that pays direct homage to the classic Red Dead Redemption expansion, Undead Nightmare.
For years, fans have playfully begged Rockstar to create a full-fledged zombie DLC for Los Santos. While not a full expansion, this new event is the closest thing yet. Titled Cayo Perico Survival, the mode transforms the tropical paradise of Cayo Perico into a nightmare zone overrun by hordes of the undead.
The objective is simple but thrilling: players must fight their way through waves of zombies to reach the island’s airstrip and secure their escape. This survival-horror twist is a fresh take on GTA Online’s gameplay, offering a chaotic and co-operative experience for players to enjoy.
This move seems inspired by the positive reception to a similar supernatural theme in Red Dead Online. The Strange Tales of the West update from July proved that players are eager for these kinds of paranormal diversions within Rockstar’s realistic open worlds.
The event isn’t just for bragging rights. Rockstar is incentivizing players with a host of lucrative rewards. Participants will earn 2X GTA$ and RP on completions, with GTA+ members receiving a boosted 4X rate. For those who survive the mission, there’s an exclusive in-game t-shirt to claim.
The rewards get even better for the most dedicated survivors. Any player who manages to complete all ten waves of a Survival match will be rewarded with the stylish Buccaneer Outfit and a cool GTA$100,000 in bonus loot. These specific rewards are available to claim until September 10th.
But that’s not all for this event period. Rockstar has layered on additional bonuses. Simply playing the new zombie mode at any point will net players the Panther Tour Jacket. Furthermore, the week offers 2X GTA$ and RP on Hidden Caches, Community Combat Series, and Open Wheel Races.
