When Hogwarts Legacy launched on the Nintendo Switch last year, it was impressive but had to make some compromises to run on the hardware. Now, with the Nintendo Switch 2 arriving soon, Avalanche Software has confirmed a major upgrade—and it’s surprisingly affordable.

What’s Changing in the Switch 2 Version?
The new version isn’t just a simple patch—it’s a complete visual and performance overhaul. Players can expect sharper graphics, faster load times, and smoother gameplay, bringing it much closer to the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X experience.
Avalanche has also confirmed that the game will take advantage of the Switch 2’s new features, including touchscreen controls and enhanced Joy-Con functionality.
How Much Does the Upgrade Cost?
If you already own Hogwarts Legacy on Nintendo Switch, you won’t have to buy the game again. Instead, you can upgrade for just $10 (or £10). For new players, the standalone Switch 2 version will cost £49.99.
Why This Is Great News for Fans
The original Switch version had to cut back on some open-world elements, replacing bridges with loading corridors and reducing environmental detail. This upgrade means Hogwarts will feel more alive than ever, with richer textures and seamless exploration.
More Big Games Coming to Switch 2
The Switch 2 launch won’t just be about Hogwarts Legacy. Rumors suggest upgraded versions of Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom, along with Cyberpunk 2077—marking its first appearance on a Nintendo console.
