GTA 6 PC Release Date Update: Not What Fans Wanted to Hear

While Grand Theft Auto VI (GTA 6) is confirmed for a Fall 2025 release on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S, PC players are left waiting for news about a port. Take-Two Interactive, Rockstar Games’ parent company, recently addressed the PC gaming market, but the update wasn’t exactly what fans were hoping for. Here’s what we know.

What Did Take-Two Say?

During an interview with IGN, Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick discussed the importance of the PC gaming market but stopped short of confirming a GTA VI PC release date. He highlighted Rockstar’s historical approach to platform releases, noting that the studio often launches games on consoles first before bringing them to PC.

Zelnick stated:

  • “With regard to others in our lineup, we don’t always go across all platforms simultaneously. Historically, Rockstar has started with some platforms and then historically moved to other platforms.”
  • “We have seen PCs become a much more important part of what used to be a console business, and I wouldn’t be surprised to see that trend continue.”

While Zelnick didn’t mention GTA VI directly, his comments suggest that a PC port is likely—just not at launch.

Why the Delay for GTA 6 PC?

Rockstar Games has a history of delaying PC releases for its biggest titles. For example:

  • Grand Theft Auto V launched on consoles in September 2013 but didn’t arrive on PC until April 2015.
  • Red Dead Redemption 2 had a similar gap, releasing on consoles in October 2018 and on PC in November 2019.

This staggered release strategy allows Rockstar to focus on optimizing the console versions first, ensuring a polished experience before tackling the wide variety of PC hardware configurations.

What Does This Mean for PC Players?

While the lack of a confirmed PC release date is disappointing, it’s almost certain that GTA VI will eventually come to PC. The real question is when. Based on Rockstar’s history, PC players might have to wait until 2026 or later.
