The gaming world is buzzing with speculation about GTA 6, and one of the hottest rumors is that the game’s price could soar past $100 at launch. However, a well-known insider claims Rockstar Games might take a different approach to keep the cost manageable: separating the single-player mode from GTA Online 2.

Insider Tez2 Shares the Latest
According to a recent post by reputable Rockstar Games leaker Tez2 on the GTA Forums, Grand Theft Auto VI and GTA Online 2 may be released as two standalone titles. The move, they suggest, could help lower the price of each game at launch, making them more accessible.
“Grand Theft Auto VI will be the first game where online is sold separately at launch, while story mode will be part of a full package that includes both,” wrote Tez2. “They will likely factor the online standalone price into the total cost.”
The leaker added, “Take-Two Interactive could benefit by pricing the online standalone lower, making it affordable for those who can’t pay $70 or $80 upfront. Over time, those players might upgrade to access the story mode, creating a win-win for the company.”
Mixed Reactions from Fans
Not everyone is thrilled about the prospect of splitting the game into two purchases. Many players have labeled the potential strategy as “highway robbery.” However, Tez2 believes the plan could work in favor of both Rockstar Games and the community.
“This also opens up an opportunity,” Tez2 continued. “Some players may want the story mode but can’t afford the upgrade price. That’s where GTA+ could come into play, offering Game Pass-like access. This would encourage extra profits from players who choose subscriptions over a one-time upgrade cost—a win-win for Take-Two.”
The Potential Impact on Pricing
The idea of splitting the game might have its advantages. Players uninterested in multiplayer could purchase the single-player mode without being forced to pay for GTA Online 2. Similarly, those who prefer multiplayer could access GTA Online 2 without committing to the full game.
But fans have raised a valid point—Grand Theft Auto V and its multiplayer counterpart, GTA Online, have already generated billions of dollars, largely thanks to Shark Card microtransactions. The notion of further monetization feels excessive to some players.
What’s Next for GTA 6?
While nothing has been officially confirmed, it’s clear that Rockstar Games and Take-Two Interactive are exploring new ways to market their games. If Tez2’s predictions are accurate, GTA VI could mark a significant shift in how Rockstar delivers its iconic titles.
